Debunking Misleading Claims in Colorado Rural Voters Flyer
"In a recent flyer distributed by Colorado Rural Voters, with Phoebe Benziger listed as the registered agent, several accusations were leveled against Commissioner Scott Mijares claiming he is somehow “NOT FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE” in what appears to be a desperate attempt to discredit him. Let's examine these claims one by one and set the record straight based on the facts. This is almost comical coming from someone who is tied so heavily to the far-left, that they would be worried about anyone being fiscally conservative, but I digress.
1. Allegation: Scott spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on severance and interim salaries after forcing out county staff.
Reality: Commissioner Mijares did not cost taxpayers a single dime in severance payments. Frank Rodriguez and Marti Whitmore resigned voluntarily. It was Sue Hansen who pushed for the severance payouts. Emily Sanchez resigned without notice making her ineligible for rehire.
2. Allegation: Gave a $15,000/month salary to his friend, former commissioner David White.
Reality: David White is not on a salary. He holds a three-month contract with the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) for management consulting services and serves as Interim County Manager on a strictly temporary basis. White's extensive experience is worth far more than his compensation and has been invaluable in stabilizing operations after the mess left by the previous county manager.
3. Allegation: Almost cost taxpayers $3 million by holding up the North Campus project.
Reality: Far from costing the county money, Mijares questioned the project's necessity and approval—rightfully so, as the building, greenlit by Hansen, Rash, and Caddy, was inadequate for its intended purpose. By pushing to evaluate whether spending $24 million was prudent, he aimed to potentially save the county $21 million. This isn't a loss; it's fiscal responsibility. Benziger's logic mirrors the flawed mindset of claiming "savings" on unnecessary purchases during a sale, ignoring affordability. The county finance department had already determined the county couldn't afford both the new campus and historic courthouse renovations, but the prior board approved it anyway. Mijares simply requested a 45-day pause to review.
Sue Hansen and Phoebe Benziger's push to remove Mijares raises questions about their motives. Voters deserve transparency, not distortions, in local governance."

Total LGBTQ Expenditures of montrose Regional library
for 2024 to September 2025
Here's the spending breakdown when asked of our library LBGTQ programming, materials and staff time- it totaled $17,208.90!!
Our library will not read Christmas stories at their winter storytime hours. Why? Because they say it might offend people.
Did you know that 90% of Americans celebrate Christmas? Yet the library is worried about offending people with Christmas stories.
Meanwhile, the Montrose Regional Library is proud to host programs and read books during story time that are grooming local kids with LGBTQ education and spend THOUSANDS on the LGBTQ agenda.
Look closely, there's even $2,000 in sponsorships to Montrose Pride along with $450 in Delta Pride Sponsorships.
Montrose County Sheriff’s Office- WHAT IS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?
Crime Prevention through neighborhood cohesion and collaboration
A Neighborhood Watch program is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together, and in conjunction with local law enforcement, to reduce crime and improve their quality of life.
Monthly Meeting Topic
Join us for a Neighborhood Watch meeting on Wednesday, September 17, at 6:00 PM in the large conference room at the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office, 1200 N Grand Ave, Montrose.
This meeting will feature the Southwest Colorado Trafficking Task Force, presenting “Not in Our Region, Not on Our Watch.” The training will cover the potential of labor and sex trafficking in our area, including the recruitment and abduction of children, and how communities can work together to prevent it.
This is an important and informative session for individuals and families of all ages.
You do not need to be a member of a Neighborhood Watch program to attend, just an interest in protecting our communities. The training is designed to encourage neighbors helping neighbors and to raise awareness so coercion and trafficking do not take root in our neighborhoods.
The training will include personal safety, crime prevention, and community concerns tips that affect our families, homes, and neighborhoods.
Montrose Classical Academy Wins State Board Appeal!
"We are humbled, grateful, and energized by the Colorado State Board of Education’s 8–1 vote yesterday to remand MCSD’s denial and approve Montrose Classical Academy (MCA).
The board spent nearly five hours with us, asking thoughtful, challenging questions and reviewing the full record. Their careful consideration showed a clear commitment to doing what’s best for Montrose County students and families.
This decision reflects the strength of a local, grassroots initiative, led by parents and educators determined to bring a tuition-free, K-8 public charter school option to our community.
🧡 We’re incredibly thankful to the MCA parents, grandparents, and community members who have stood with us, from those who traveled to Denver to those who tuned in from their home. Your commitment continues to move this vision forward.
And we’re not stopping here. As we’ll teach our students, there’s always more to learn, more to grow, and more to give. We look forward to collaborating with MCSD and together bringing this educational option to Montrose County." ~September 12, 2025
